Unions plan merger
PA Wellington The Distribution Workers’ Federation says it has reconsidered a possible merger with the
Clerical Workers’ Association, after rejecting an approach from the association last year. Last year, the C.W.A. sought to amalgamate with the D.W.F. and Hotel Workers’ Union, which would have meant an organisation with a membership of more than 150,000 workers. The D.W.F., which
covers about 60,000 workers, rejected the idea. The C.W.A. represents about 50,000 workers.
The federation’s secretary, Mr Paul Kimble, said yesterday that the D.W.F.’s annual conference in Wellington last week had resolved to enter discussions on "closer links” with the C.W.A. No formal move had yet been made by the federation and he said it was difficult to put a date on possible amalgamation.
