Union man angry
PA Auckland Union officials say they have been incensed by the abrupt closing of the “Auckland Sun.” Staff were told the 11-month-old morning newspaper was to be summarily closed at a meeting at 3 p.m. on Friday. Mr Don Farr, secretary of the photo-lithographers union, said outside the newspaper’s New North Road building he was angry at the sudden announcement. Unions would have to meet today to discuss the question of redundancy payouts, he said.
