N.Z. choir does well

One point separated the National Youth Choir from victory in the mixed choir section of the International Musical Eisteddfod, in Wales. The Rodina Choir, of Bulgaria, won the competition with 271 points for three pieces, the first of which was a set work. Earlier the New Zealand Choir, which is be-

ginning a two-month international tour, also came second in the youth section of the competition, held in Llangollen, North Wales. The conductor of the National Youth Choir, Professor Peter Godfrey, said the choir was the youngest competing in the open section, against 19 choirs from 12 countries.

The choir gained the most marks for the set work, Jubilate Deo, by Lassus, and for Das Ist Meine Fredue, by Bach. Professor Godfrey said the third work performed by the New Zealanders, Beata Virgo, by David Griffiths, of Dunedin, generated much interest among the other choirs in the competition.
