Key used in burglary?
Stallones Pizzas in Colombo Street, Beckenham, was burgled on Monday by someone who appeared to have a key to gain entry, the police said.
Detective Senior-Ser-geant Mike Muddiman said the premises were entered between 1 a.m. and 2 p.m. The offenders opened the safe and stole $4331.65 in cash and $366.77 in cheques. “It appears somebody must have known the combination as the safe wasn’t forced,” he said. Another Stallones Pizzas outlet in Christchurch was burgled in a similar way last year. Police inquiries are continuing. Arson
A fire which caused moderate damage to the
rear and roof of Supreme Packaging, Ltd, in Linwood, on Monday evening was deliberately lit, according to the police.
The fire was discovered about 10.30 p.m. by a security guard who visited the Falsgrave Street premises.
Detective Senior-Ser-geant Muddiman said wooden bins at the rear of the building had been set alight. The fire spread to the rear wall of the building and into the roof area. The Fire Service put out the fire before it caused serious damage. Owner sought The owner of a 4.2 m (14ft) runabout boat is sought by the Hornby police.
The Figlass-built Fireball vessel was found dumped in Lunns Road, Middleton, about two weeks ago. The vessel, believed to be worth about $3OOO, is white with red bow-top.
Anyone with information about the vessel’s owner is asked to contact
the Hornby police. Woman followed A woman who was followed by a man down Colombo Street on Monday evening has reported the incident to the police. Detective Senior-Ser-geant Muddiman said the young woman left the Cashmere Club about 8.50 p.m. and was walking home along Colombo Street. She heard a man yell out and began to walk quicker. A European man, aged about 50, then walked up behind her and began following. He continued following her until she met a friend at the Cashmere Garage. "As soon as she met with this other person the following person disappeared,” said SeniorSergeant Muddiman. The man sought by the police had straight black hair, balding at the back. He was of thin build, about 167 cm (sft 6in) tall and wore a black windbreaker and jeans.
The police said he either walked with a limp or was intoxicated.
