PA Wellington While a man was picking “magic” mushrooms, a detective was nearby cutting firewood, the District Court in Wellington was told yesterday. Roger Edward Nickel, aged 37, a technician, pleaded guilty to possession of mushrooms containing the class A drug, psilocine. Judge Hobbs convicted and discharged

him. Sergeant Grant Laffey said that at 12.30 p.m. on June 5, Nickel was seen picking mushrooms on a farm at New Plymouth. Sent to the D.S.I.R. for analysis, the mushrooms were found to contain psilocine. Sergeant Laffey said Nickel had said he picked the mushrooms because they made him feel good.
