Skyhawk bombs house

PA Wanganui A house in Bulls was hit by a practice bomb from an R.N.Z.A.F. Skyhawk yesterday but no-one was hurt

The wooden house, which is in Taumaihi Street and owned by the R.N.Z.A.F., is untenanted. The bomb, weighing about 3kg and made of steel and tubing, hit the house and bounced off it A window was broken and some paint was damaged. Flight Lieutenant David Williamson said the bombing was "an irregular release” from the Skyhawk, which was on a training mission carrying six practice bombs to the Raumai air weapons range, 16km west of Ohakea.

The incident happened at 12.57 p.m. when the Skyhawk was taking off. The bomb was dropped from an altitude of 500 ft.
