Dunedin helps dam strikers
PA Dunedin Families of striking Clyde Dam workers are being sponsored by Dunedin waterside and maritime unions. The advocate for the dam site’s combined unions, Mr Calvin Fisher, said yesterday he was “excited when watersiders came with an offer to help.”
“About 16 families have come back to Dunedin from the dam, and it is a tremendous load off our plate for these families to be adopted,” he said.
A number of other unions in Dunedin had also offered to help.
Nine union members who had been speaking in the North Island would return today to give progress reports to a full site meeting in Cromwell on Sunday. From those speaking engagements pledges for financial support were coming in, enabling the union to meet its grocery bill each week, Mr Fisher said.
