C.E.R. ‘peace-keepers’?
By
BRENDON BURNS,
political reporter
A “peace-keeping” force to monitor Tasman trade under the renegotiated closer economic relationship has been proposed by the Minister of Overseas Trade and Marketing, Mr Moore.
However, he said yesterday that the establishment of such a group of New Zealand and Australian officials might not be necessary if next week’s C.E.R. talks in Christchurch produce firm timetables for free trade. The proposal for a group to settle Tasman
trade disputes was leaked to the Australian "Financial Review” which ran a front-page article yesterday.
An Australian trade official told “The Press” yesterday that his Government was not very enthusiastic about such a group’s being established.
