Mr Charles Bacon
A former New Zealand champion oarsman, member of the Canterbury Rowing Club and president of Heritage New Zealand, Mr Chalres Law Bacon, has died in Christchurch. He was 90. Mr Bacon was also manager of the Sydenham branch of the Bank of New Zealand for 16 years. He retired from the bank in 1957.
He was a New Zealand
champion oarsman in the eights, fours and pairs while rowing with the Canterbury Rowing Club. He served in World War II in the South Pacific campaign, with the rank of major. Mr Bacon became the Canterbury branch president of Heritage in 1952 and went onto become president of the national body in 1971-72. Mr Bacon is survived
by a son and a daughter.
