Drivers settle on allowances
PA Auckland Talks on the Northern Ancillary Drivers’ Award ended in Auckland yesterday with employers agreeing to wage and industry allowance increases of 13.5 per cent. Drivers north of Taupo have thus gained parity with road carrier and contractor drivers who received increases in November when the general drivers’ award was split into three groups. The employers’ advocate, Mr Ralph Gardiner, said that while he thought the increase was too high, many drivers in the region were already being paid at the new rate or had been promised it.
Ancillary drivers deliver the products of a wide variety of food, drink and general goods for manufacturers which employ them.
