Sale of ‘scoopers’ endorsed
The demonstration of a dog “pooper scooper” provided impromptu entertainment at a Waimairi District Council committee meeting yesterday. During a discussion about the purchase off pooper scoopers by interested dog owners, Cr David Buist decided to show councillors the additional uses of the device by using it to scoop up a sandwich from the afternoon tea plate. He said one of the benefits of the black, plastic object, was that it deposited the dog droppings In a plastic bag, “so you can put it in your pocket and take it home.”
The pooper scooper was described by another councillor as a “collector’s item.” The community affairs committee agreed to buy 50 of the $4.85 scoopers for sale to dog owners in the district Several dog owners have already expressed interest in purchasing the device. Council staff, said it would help owners to comply with the by-law which makes it an offence not to “forthwith remove faecal matter when a dog fouls any public footway.”
