Spaniel stabbed

A veterinarian, Dr Nick Lyttle, examines Luther, an English springer spaniel, which was stabbed with a pitchfork yesterday. Assisting him is Miss Siobhan van der Werk, a veterinary nurse. The five-year-old male spaniel was found on his Hornby owners’ property with the prong of the fork protruding 3cm. to 4cm from his right hind leg. It is believed an intruder injured the dog, which was

enclosed within a 2m fence on the property. The fork entered the inside of the leg, narrowly missing a main artery, leaving a Icm diameter hole. Dr Lyttle said the dog was lucky not to have bled to death. Police are investigating the incident
