‘Press’ motoring section previewed
The cocktails looked like anti-freeze, and dozens of “The Press” staff were dressed as “pit crew” for the launch of the paper’s new “Motoring” section last evening. The guests, including motor-vehicle dealers, motoring personalities, and others associated with the trade and motorsport, were handed a blue concoction billed as “antifreeze fender-bender formula,” which proved to be far more potable than it looked.
They were also handed wads of play money to gamble on car races decided on the roll of the dice, and later used their winnings to bid for advertising space in the first issues of the new publication.
The aim of the evening was to introduce to the
trade the new motoring section of “The Press,” which will first appear on June 17. It would be “the authoritative weekly voice for motoring in Christchurch,” said the advertising manager, Mr Michael Pope.
"Motoring,” with its full-colour front page, will head a new. look magazine section for Friday editions of “The Press.” There will also be a “What’s On” section, on entertainment and the arts.
“Motoring” will include road tests and motoring news by the senior motoring writer, Peter Greenslade, and Neil, Clarkson, the former motoring writer of the “Star.” John Hawkins and George Tanner will provide motorsport news.
