Buyers chase Air N.Z. stake

PA Wellington The partial sale of Air New Zealand may have moved closer last evening with companies making opening bids for a share of the airline, but a Government spokesman would not confirm this. The deadline for prospective buyers to make indicative bids for Air New Zealand was 5 p.m. yesterday. Up to six potential buyers have been talked about as likely to indicate

an interest. However, there was no confirmation from either the Treasury or the Minister for State-Owned Enterprises, Mr Prebble, who instigated the share sale. A Treasury spokesman said the information was considered commercially sensitive and no comment would be made before the tendering process was completed and the details forwarded to the Government for its consideration.
