Cheaper power for Auckland
PA Auckland Auckland will get discounted power after , a landmark bulk tariff agreement with the Electricity Corporation. The Auckland Electric Power Board says the A.E.P.B. has been battling Electricorp since February for a discount price because it buys one-sixth of the corporation’s output. The muscle flexing paid off yesterday when Electricorp made an agreement that was very favourable, the chairman of the A.E.P.8., Mr John Collinge, said. The terms of the agreement were confidential. Mr Collinge said the A.E.P.B. would set new
retail rates at a board meeting in two weeks time.
“But I do not believe Auckland consumers will be disappointed. Indeed, I think there will be elation. We are very pleased they have come to the party,” he said.
The Waitemata Electric Power Board has put up its retail prices by 11 per cent and the Franklin Power Board domestic prices have risen by 9 per cent.
"The Auckland Power Board will be able to offer its consumers a significant reduction on these increases, 'although I can not give further details out at this stage,” said Mr Collinge.
