Backing for Reagan

NZPA-Reuter Washington Americans gave President Reagan resounding backing for improved relations with the Soviet Union which culminate in his fourth summit meeting with the Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, in Moscow tomorrow.

An ABC-“Washing-ton Post” poll released yesterday showed 70 per cent of those surveyed approved of Mr Reagan’s handling of relations with the Soviet, Union, with 22 per cent disapproving. Sixty-six per cent of those polled said relations with the Soviet Union now appeared excellent, and 65 per cent said they believed AmericanSoviet relations were entering a new era. Mr Reagan did not fare so well in general perceptions of the way he is doing his job, with 50 per cent expressing approval and 46 per cent disapproving.
