Within the Division, three Departments, Technical Services, Bulk Water and the Department of Water (Wellington City) provide the support to meet these responsibilities. The function of Technical Services is to provide professional and technical support to the development, construction, maintenance and operation of services offered by the Council. This support includes such areas as the Te Marua Water Treatment Plant for which the design and purchasing of all mechanical, electrical and process equipment as well as the arranging of installation work has been carried out by Council Staff. Other areas include the preparation of plans for water main contracts, investigations into dams, pipelines and reticulation within Wellington City. The main objective of the Bulk Water Department is to maintain the water supply service to the region’s local authorities and maintain the quality of water supplied. This involves the Department in managing the water supply catchments and maintaining and operating pipelines, pumping stations and treatment plants. One of the major responsibilities of this Department are the three Headworks located at Karori, Kaitoke and Wainuiomata. The Department of Water (Wellington City) is involved with the operation and distribution of water throughout Wellington City. The Wellington Regional Council currently has a number of Engineering vacancies at various levels of expertise available in these three Departments.
