Chathams council to discuss impact
Political reporter The Chatham Islands County Council will meet this afternoon to discuss the impact of its representatives at the Islands 88 conference at Hobart I Ast week. The international forum of island groups was used to launch a Chathams’ push for greater autonomy. The deputation, lead by the County Chairman, Mr Bunty Preece, and the deputy chairman, Mr Pat Smith, returned to New Zealand yesterday. On their return they met in Christchurch their local Member of Parliament, Dr. Peter Simpson (Lab., Lyttelton).
