New depot sought
The Railways Corporation will leave the Victoria Street bus depot as soon as another site can be found.
The corporation had envisaged partnering another developer in the site’s future but yesterday its Christchurch property manager said the site would be sold soon. “I can’t see the Railway
being involved in that site — we would walk away from it,” Mr Grant Ancell said.
The Victoria Street depot was described as one of the city’s “at risk” buildings during the visit by the Minister of Conservation, Ms Clark, this week.
The site is zoned for commercial or hotel development.
