Support for victim

A Christchurch tetraplegic who was robbed by his home help last week has had calls of support from throughout New Zealand.
Mr Mervyn Brown, who lost his credit cards and some of his personal belongings, said he had received several telephone calls from people shocked and disgusted at the theft.
One angry Auckland woman sent him a small amount of money. Mr Brown, aged 52, said he appreciated the person’s generosity but would probably give the money to one of his favourite charities, such as Riding for the Disabled. “I need the money and I appreciate the gesture, but I feel this is something I have to battle through on my own,” he said.
The man, aged 26, who was employed as a home help for Mr Brown, had part-completed an Access course that trains people in the care of the elderly and handicapped. The police now believe the man is in Auckland.
