Te Rapa hopefuls gallop at Woodville

Special correspondent Woodville

Just A Star and Sonchela, two prospects at Te Rapa tomorrow, appeared to handle the soft conditions better than most at Woodville yesterday morning. Fast work took place on the outside of the course proper in miserable conditions.

Just A Star and Uncomplicated went 1000 m in 1:7.8, the former travelling comfortably at the end of the 600 m in 39.95. Just A Star should at last get conditions to suit in the Noble Heights Stakes. Uncomplicated is a chance in the final event at Trentham. Classic March worked the reverse way and could be timed only over her last 400 m in 28s. She is well and is in the Noble Heights Stakes at Te Rapa with Erin Jillings the rider.

Sonchele ran 1200 m in 1:26.9, the last 600 m easily in 42.95. She could not be overlooked in the McKinnon Garbett Handicap at Te Rapa. Disintegrate and Amarnath could not be timed over 1000 m but came from the 600 m in 39.75. Amamath should show up in the Laura Fergusson Trust Handicap at Trentham.

Legal Brief and Bard completed their work with 600 m in 425. Legal Brief won impressively at Woodville and lines up in the Lemon Piling Handicap at Trentham. Nymphe Noire finished clear of Kooyong at the end of 1200 m in 1:28, the final 600 m in 445. David Walsh rides the likely improver Nymphe Noire in the NZIG Rockgas Handicap at Trentham. Pacific Dawn went 1200 m taking 39.3 s for the last 600 m. He is another prospect in the Lemon Piling Handicap. Aston Lass and Extra Plush strode over 1000 m in 1:9, the final 600 m in 40.95. Aston Lass is expected to go well in the Dixon and Dunlop Handicap, while Extra Plush gets another chance in the Hongkongbank Handicap. Trail Blazer worked easily over a round, taking 43s for her last 600 m. She starts in the Glaxo Handicap and would prefer reasonable footing. Te Rapa-bound Spot of Gold had Radiant Dawn as a companion over 800 m in 555, the last 600 m in 41. is. Spot of Gold is another which may be troubled if the track is top wet. I T
