Input to inquiry light on advice
PA Wellington Only a fraction of the 350 submissions to the Committee of Inquiry into Pornography had tangible suggestions on what should be done, said the chairwoman, Ms Joanne Morris. People were making submissions on what they perceived to be the problem but few actually said what changes they thought should be made. Ms Morris said she hoped this would change when the committee looked at submissions made by groups because members were giving a lot of time to their submissions. Most of the submissions so far had / been from individuals but the committee was being flooded with submissions now and Ms Morris expected most of them to be from groups. Some tangible suggestions . involved moves such as sex education in schools. Most submissions received by the committee have been made by women calling for the laws governing pornography to be retained or tightened.
Ms Morris said the committee would travel round New Zealand to hear oral submissions and to follow up submissions made by letter.
