Fog disrupts work

Fog disrupted much of the trackwork at Riccarton yesterday as a num-. ber of Trentham candidates went through* their, paces. Most of the work was on the plough. ; Lady Blandford (Wai-,* ter) and Romantic Beauty (Jackson) ran 1400 m together in 1:32.6, the last 800 m in 52.3 s and the last 600 m in 38.15. 4 Newginn (Jamieson) could easily have im-. proved on her 1400 m in 1:35.6 the last 600 m in, 39.8 s while Ruff (Jamieson) took 1:25.2 for 1200 m, the closing 600 - in 40.75. Peach Melba and Eye Full worked together over 1200 m but were shrouded in fog. They bowled their last 100 m keenly with Grant Davison and Chris Johnson the riders. Davison rides the Murfitt team at Trentham and Johnson rides Ruff and other members of the Jackson team which make the trip. The two Murfitt mares, which have never travelled outside North and South Canterbury in their careers to date, go north by road tomorrow morning and trainer Mick Murfitt is hoping that the two close companions will have no problems settling. Other workers able to be timed included Cochineal (Kenyon) and, Claire’s Reason (Duff) • which ran 800 m in 53.95; and the last 600 m in 39.65* and Dash o Dublin which: came in from the 600 m in' 37.65.
