Car repair quality plan

A new trairiing programme will be introduced in New Zealand to ensure that the high quality of post-accident vehicle repairs is maintained, the Motor Body Builders’ Association has decided.

The internationally recognised I-CAR autobody repair training programme will provide continually updated instruction for already qualified tradespeople to keep them abreast of the rapidly changing technology in the industry, the association said.

The association represents about 60 per cent of the autobody repair industry in New Zealand but it plans to invite the participation of non-aligned repairers, motor-vehicle

manufacturers, insurance companies and others in the programme. The decision followed up extensive . discussions with Mr Jeffrey Silver, executive vice-president of I-CAR, United States, who spoke to the association’s national conference at Methven last week-end.

Delegates to the conference agreed that regular updated training was needed for repairers to enable them to guarantee the integrity of their work.

Initially the association will select four well qualified, experienced repairers to undergo training in the United States. They will establish a training programme on their return to New Zealand, initiaUy in the main centres.
