Small yardings fail to lift prime stock prices
Small ya 'dings, because of a short week, failed to lift prices for prime stock at Addington Vesterday. Cattle ar|d pigs showed a definite drop in values, reflecting the drop in schedule rates at the week-end. Adult sheep prices also fell, removing gains tiiade last week. Lambs held at rates similar to last wepk but the yarding lacked higher-priced stock. Prime lambs The smaller market lacked the heavy, woolly rams of recent weeks and top prices were consequently back. Fewpens made more than $2O. Over-all prices for the stock offered for sale were similar to last week. Although the lack o ' a strong top end gave a slightly weaker tone to the markei. there was little change in values. Most lambs sold at $l4 to $l9. A total of 1309 lambs was yarded, compared with 1828 last week. I Values Heavy lambs. $2O. Medium |lambs. $l7 to $l9. Light lambs. $l2 to $l6. Sales included: D. J. Prime sheep Adult sheep had a difficult sale. Prices fell between SI and $1.50 on last week's sale, wiping the gains then made at the top and bottom ends of the market. The fall was largely attrii buted to a lack of competition among buyers. Few two-tooths were again yarded and prices continued to fall. The top price of the day was just $17.20.
