A society transformed
Tonight’s episode of “Australia” (9 on One) looks at the vast changes in the country during the last 40 years.
In that time, Australia has changed from a homogenous society with a predominantly white An-glo-Saxon population to a cosmopolitan one. Chinese, Malay, Pakistani, Vietnamese — all now [find a living in the nation which was known for its White Australia policy. Tonight's documentry is presented by Phillip Adams, who was chairman of the Australian Film Commission and is now a regular columnist and a sharp observer of the contemporary national scene. Finally, Adams considers the connection! between the nation’s legends and ralities: Botony Bay, Ned [ Kelly, the out back, i Bondi Beach slouch hats, flying doc tors! and, above all, the Anzacs. To what extent he asks, do a nation’.* legends become its soul. [
