Marist centenary
LEFT: Brother Bernard Blewman, the provincial superior of the Marist speaking at the official opening ceremony ) of the Marist Brothers’ centenary on Saturday. CENTRE: The Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, the Most Rev. Basil Meeking. blesses the commemorative plaque and stone. Assisting him is: Monsignor James Harrington (foreground), the first Old Boy from Xavier; College to be ordained to the priesthood. The opening was held in the Catholic Cathedral College grounds, with the stone located near the
school’s gates. It reads “To commemorate 100 years of Marist j Brothers education on {this! site 18S8 — 1988.” The stone is from the! Rakaia River. ' !
