The police were called to a house in Porirua East about 1 la.m. on Sunday and two constables arrived to find an axe-wield-ing man trying to break down the front door, apparently ( after being locked olut by his wife. Constable John Ander-

son had to dodge the swinging axe while he tried to persuade the man to give up; the weapon. The. man eventually forced his( way inside and was followed by Constables Anderson and Sarah Bullen, who phoned for backup. The constables wrestled the axe (from the man before support arrived. Constable I Bullen’s hand was injured in the struggle.
