Arias out in first round
NZPA-Reuter Monte Carlo American Jimmy; Arias, a Monte Carlo Open tennis finalist last year, made an unrewarding return to the Mediterranean principality when he was knocked out In the first round on Monday. Arias fell 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, to seasoned Czechoslovak Tomas Smld in the opening match on the same centre court where he had finished runner-up to Sweden’s Mats Wilander a year ago. The American, who has dropped to fiftieth in world tennis rankings from the fifth spot he filled in June 1984, appeared to be putting a wretched run behind him as he i reeled off jfour straight games to clinch the first set But his game crumbled against a player 13 rungs above him in the rankings when line-calls went against him in the second and third sets. . '
