Huntsbury decision seen as victory
The recent 'Planning Tribunal (decision to decline a Heathcote County Council scheme, change allowing development on Huntsbury Spur is a victory for (Canterbury's regional scheme. ' At Wednesday's Canterbury United Council regional planning 1 committee's meeting the council’s regional planner; Mr Max Barber, j said I it was pleased the tribunal had upheld the! scheme. The tribunal in its deci- 6 sion said ’that [the spur was an important part of the '.'visual amenities of the Port, Hills.” j It accepted that it had been a regional planning objective to [make a
■ ■ i special study of the Port Hills. : Mr Barber said that the next step was to meet the Heathcote County j Council and other authorities to “get agreement on any comprehensive development on the lower* parts of the spur.” I He also said recommendations in the Port Hills Study should be discussed at the Tneeting. J \ The tribunal’s decision returns that land on the spur to a rural! zone. Dwellings are permitted where they are part of a farm. However, subdividing the land is not permitted for solely residential use.
