Martelomeo may race at Awapuni
By david McCarthy The Rlccarton trainer, Roydon Bergerson, is eyeing the Star Way 2000 at Awapuni on Anzac Day as a possible target for Martelomeo. A final decision on the trip will depend on how she performs at Waterlea on Saturday. “She would need to win to earn the trip but she is crying out for more ground and there are not many opportunities for her down here. She is not qualified fori the South Island Three-Year-Old
Final at Wingatui,” Bergerson said. Martelomeo felt no after affects from being pulled up at Riccarton last week and has not missed any work. She will be ridden by Ross Elliot at Waterlea, being engaged in an apprentice race. Martelomeo won the South Island Two-Year-Old Final last Easter at Riccarton. The Star Way feature is run over 2000 m for $30,000 and is for fillies and mares three years old and upward.
