Pot form core of display
One pot was the inspiration for Frederika Emsten's exhibition, to open on Sunday at the Cave Rock Gallery in Sumner.
I All the pots to be (exhibited are extensions of the first form. “I elongated it, and made it wider; .the whole j exhibition is based on variations of that form,” said Ernsten. The exhibition work is different from that for which I the potter is known.
"I stopped making pots and concentrated on domestic ware when I opened the shop," she said. The shop is the
Courtyard Potteryj in Rutland Street. I
The pots have three glazes. The predominant colours are black and blue. In the bowls,; the main shades are tomato red and black. Matt and shiny finishes are used. “The black-with-blue flash pots have a matt finish. For the bowls I used a dramatic red inside with a shiny glaze that you don’t see {until you look into the bowl.” Ernsten said. The exhibition, to run for two weeks, is the last for the Sumner gallery, which wall soon move into the centre of Christchurch.
