Caretaker falls through floor

PA Wellingtn Part of the first floor of Victoria University’s historic Hunter Building collapsed under the caretaker, Mr Eric Clarke, during a safety check, the “Evening Post” reported yesterday. ! Mr Clarke said he fell through the rotten floor of the building up tb the elbows while making a weekly safety check just after midday on Monday. He said that luckily the assistant registrar was checking the second floor at the time and responded

immediately to his calls for help. “I couldn’t have held on for much longer and would have fallen 18ft to the floor below," he said. Mr Clarke said he believed a safety check of the building yesterday by the university’s safety officer, Mr Vernon Carter, had shown the whole building was unsafe. The building has been closed for some time. I Mr Clarke said the university was supposed to maintain the building until it was redeveloped)
