Jackson team changes

Decisions taken > by Blandford Lodge, j one of the leading patrons of the Jackson stable, and the return of a fully fit Samasaan, promise to give the Riccarton ] team directed by Garth Jackson a new look in the next few months. ! Blandford Lodge, Matamata, has become, more and more important to the Jackson stable after the initial success in the south of Camallino Star which is owned by Alan Galbraith, a Blandford director. Such was her impact, however, that the stud sent down several: fillies and mares in search of the stakes status (which would add thousands to the value of any offspring auctioned in future. That move has proven successful through the efforts of; Impound,| Lady Blandford and Joytripper. Romantic Beauty has
been another winner for the I northern stud while Ruff, which was purchased from a I Christchurch syndicate, has also won. “The time has come now:to breed from these mares. We will be losing most of them but Joytripper and Camallino Star will be staying for the|new season,”: Jackson said yesterday. The others will shortly be sent north, with Ruff expected to tilt at the Cuddle Stakes at Trentham |on May 7 as (her swansong. (Jackson ( is disappointed; that the sister (to Ultra Sound cannot have ! another season( on the( turf but while Ultra Sound continues [to race in her present (form Ruff is probably of more value to Blandford in the broodmare paddock. ( i Lady Blandford, a (Sovereign Edition mare which won! the Wairio Cup, is in trie same posi-
tiori. j Jackson is hoping for a chance (to try Camallino Star more seriously over a middle ! distance in the new season. She did not race beyond 1600 m this iseason during which she won the Churchill Stakes, the Timaru Cup and the Levin Mitchpine Stakes. However; she was placed twice at Riccarton over 2000 m as a late three-year-old including a second in the South Island Three-Yeai;-Old Championship. | "She will be pointed at 1600 m events in the first part of the season but more ground should suit her over ( the summer,” Jacksoh; said. Joy gripper was a late addition' to( the team winning trie Waitaki 1600 m at Oamaru. She will not be hard to place. Samasaan is looking burly but he has come up very well and Jackson is
looking I for - a rape resumption in June dr early July. | Samasaan was thrown out of training; after jarring up badly oh the eve of a proposed j Melbourne Cup trip in November. I The cause (of trouble was isolated and treated and no further problems are expected. ] ; “He has been doing light exercise for some weeks and will get more serious now. One way and another he has not had much racing over the last two years but! he’ll be kept busy this spring,” said Jackson who will decide on whetiier the Melbourne or New Zealand Cup has the highest priority as spring form unravels. | j - , Samasaan (only raced five times in New Zealand as a six-year-bld arid had two starts in Australia. He had just four (starts this term. i
