First basketball tournament
The Cheviot Basketball 1 club will host its first-ever basketball tournament this Sunday in the Cheviot Community Hall. Unfortunately the hall is under half the size of a normal court, with only | about 3m separating the two I end keyholes, and no centre I circle. Clyde Huntly would i have a field day shooting baskets from inside his own keyhole. Three lower-grade men's teams (Taxes, Blues and Businessworld) and three ladies
teams (Mitre Tavern, Tran- | spac and Daniels) have accepted invitations to take part in the day-long tournament, which winds up with a barbei cue.

weekly. ■ .[ j [ The club now has 50 members and trains once a week; for 2>/ 2 hours, and this season! has entered the Woodend competition, which began; earlier this week. Last season, the ladies finished third in a North Canterbury tournament and ' both teams finished third at last year's Labour week-end tournament. The teams also competed at [the Ashburton tournament 1 ini February and the [Easter! tournament in Christchurch! with limited success.
