New talks on meat industry award

By RICHARD CRESSWELL ! industrial reporter Meat workers’ unions and meat industry employers will meet tomorrow in Wellington in a desperate bid to reach agreement on stalled award talks. The assistant general secretary of the New Zealand Meat Workers’ Union, Mr Tiny Kirk, said the talks would be between the Auckland Tomoana union, the New Zealand union, and the employers. The sticking point remains the inclusion of clause 13 agreements in

the national award which the I Meat Industry Association, the employer, is against.

Mr Kirk said that at the meeting of the union yesterday in Christchurch it had decided to meet the employers again. ! A pay increase of $24.13 a week has already been settled. Action at New Zealand’s works has been predicted if there is no settlement.
