Mosse aims for Seoul

PA Washington ’ i ’ ■: ■ New Zealand’s , Anthony Mosse has set his sights firmly on Seoul after a superb swim gave him the 2W-yard butterfly title at the United States national collegiate (N.C.A.A.) men’s swimming championships in Indianapolis. Mosse had powered his way through the : first half of the race on Sunday evening to set up a commanding body length lead and then drove himself ,to the limit for the victory. J He was so exhausted at the finish he had to be dragged from the pool. Mosse’s winning time over the short course (25 yard) pool was 1 min 43.99 seconds, just 1.15 seconds slower than his personal best “I felt this was the time to check everything , out before the Games in Seoul,” he said from United States base at MP Stanford University last evening. ' I ’ It was his first individual N.CA.A. title, al: though he has won three of the collegiate titles before as part of the Stanford team, and he said it came against the best 2H-yard butterfly swimmers in the United States. Mosse said he believed he was only the second New Zealander to win such a title. He thought the first went to Lincoln Hurring, father of Gary Hurring, who won an N.CXA. backstroke title in the 19505. Mosse had also been a place-getter in the 109 yard butterfly, finishing third in 47.62 seconds. He said that Paul Kingsman had also been a , finals place-getter, finishing third in the 200 yard backstroke. I U I • ! I
