Second escape
A Paparua Prison inmate recaptured |in Timaru on Saturday escaped again yesterday morning as he was being taken to the District Court at Timaru.
Senior - Sergeant Johan Gulliver, of the Timaru police, said Gary Francis Collins, aged 24, bolted through a yard at the back |of the police station about 9 a.m. The constable who was escorting him gave chase but could not catch the fleet-footed
Collins. Collins escaped from Paparua Prison on March 29 while working in the prison garage. The police suspected he had headed for Timaru, his home town, and finally caught up with him at an inner-city address on Saturday. |
Collins is not considered dangerous. When he escaped yesterday he was wearing a black jersey, black shoes, and blue jeans. He has a skinhead haircut.
