This offers a maximum of $lO,OOO to any company sending someone overseas to seek out new product opportunities, provided they also send a marketing person. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research offers to do development work on any new at a
discounted cost, and cash prizes of $5OOO to $15,000 are offered for the best product ideas. - J The Market Development Board’s chairman, Mr Peter Shirtcliffe, said high overseas travel costs meant many New Zealand companies were cut- off from international trends in product development and marketing. Companies also tended to send only their marketing people and not their technologists, he said. The Minister of Overseas Trade, Mr Moore, called on manufacturers to bring their technologists out of their laboratories and into the marketplace to help develop new produces.
