Horse freed from pit

A two-hour rescue had a happy ending for a horse named Spice yesterday. The horse fell through iron covering part of a septic tank in a yard at the R.S.P.C.A. animal home in Willmers Road, soon after II a.m., and became trapped under the remaining concrete covers in three metres of sewage.

The 18-year-old horse panicked and suffered cuts and grazes as it tried to escape. A veterinarian and the Fire Servicepwere called to rescue the animal

The concrete covers were pulled off the tank and the sewege pumped out so that slings could be placed under the horse. ' i
