Invitation to young choral singers
Young choral singers have! been invited to enrol for this year’s Secondary Schools Music Festival. The festival (was established after discussions between representatives of the New Zealand Choral Federation, the Education j Department and secondary school music teachers. A series of regional festivals will be held during the last week of the first school term in) May. A visiting choral musician will comment on performances and'provide a written report for competing choirs. | All the groups taking part' will also (be professionally; recorded. The tapes will be |sent to Wellington together with re-
gional commentators’ reports. A panel' of judges' will then select up to nine' groups to attend | the fes-' tival final) in Wellington on Sunday, August 14. ; Choirs taking part will perform the same works they sang in the! regional finals. | I I 1 ' ' This year’s festival is divided into sections for small single-sex) groups and mixed-voice groups of between 10 and! 16 singers. In;the large-group section, choirs of! 20 |to 40 singers can take! part in an open sectiod which can include female, male and mixed voices.
