Union I faces big claim
PA Auckland A damages claim approaching $1 million has been lodged against the Northern Drivers’ Union by the Auckland food and chemical manufacturer. Unilever New Zealand, Ltd. The company seeks damages of $lOO,OOO a day in respect of a drivers' strike which began on February 29. Supermarkets have reported shortages of detergents and frozen and dehydrated foods manufactured by the company, which maintains the strike is illegal. Ancillary drivers employed by firms to deliver their goods seek the same 14 per cent over-all rise gained by contractor drivers and road carriers.
