Golf clubrooms damaged in fire
Fire caused moderate damage to.-the clubrooms of the Christchurch Golf Club in Shirley yesterday. ■ The Fire Service sent six engines to the links after receiving the call at 7.24 a.m. and quickly brought the blaze under control. The fire, not considered suspicious, started in the downstairs kitchen area. It burned through/She
ceiling, damaged a pas- | sageway alongside the ' women’s lounge and caused minor damage to an adjoining!toilet. A Fire Service spokesman said the blaze burnt inside a wall and entered the roof space. Club members and officials covered furnishings and floor coverings with polythene sheets in a
bid to minimize water damage.
Damage was confined to about 10 per cent of the clubrooms. An insurance assessor inspected the damage about 9 a.m. !
The club’s managersecretary, Mr Gordon Reid, said efforts were under way to repair the damage as soon as possible.
Floor coverings in some areas would need to be lifteii he said.
