I . It is hoped a date for i the High Court hearing I will be set in April. The chairman of the Refuse Disposal Committee, Mr Ron Wright, said on Tuesday it was determined to get its money. Mr Revell said that the ( company was charged for i dumping 18,000 tonnes of I waste when "in fact only about 10 per cent of that | was toxic tarry waste.” The remainder was clean soil, mixed for safe removal. Payment had been offered for the 1800
tonnes of toxic waste. Mr Revell .said that Christchurch Gas intended to ensure that not only was the legality of the charges against it examined, but also the use of the Waimairi landfill site for the deliberate acceptance of toxic waste. The danger jof toxic waste accommodated at the landfill site subsequently leaching to groundwater .was a major community concern,! he said. :
