Steyr rifles paraded
PA Wellington The Army has staged its first parade featuring its new Steyr rifles at Trentham Military Camp. About 170 soldiers from one of the Army’s largest formations, Base i Area Wellington, took part in the ceremony. Because the new rifle is much shorter and lighter than its predecessors, the drill movements displayed in the parade were different from those used in the past. Steyr rifles are the new individual weapons replacing the post ! World War II vintage Fabrique Nationale self-loading rifle, Sterling j sub-machine-gun, and the veteran of Vietnam days, the MI6AI Colt | semiautomatic riflej
The first 5000; Steyr rifles were bought direct from the Austrian) manufacturer last ! year and some have already been distributed to working Units.
