Forestry in the high country
A workshop on forestry in the North Canterbury high country will be held on Friday, March 18. The workshop is being organised by the Ministry of Works and Development. About 25 speakers will present a range of individual and organisational viewpoints. The speakers will cover environmental aspects of forestry such as soils, hydrology, vegetation, wildlife and visual, and the social aspects — Maori values, the rural community, recreation and tourism. Plantation Board, the Rural Bank, Canterbury' United Council, North Canterbury Catchment Board, Malvern County Council, Ministry of Forestry, Conservation Department, Forest Research Centre, Ministry for the Environment, and the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society. The workshop will be held at the Russley Hotel from 8.45 a.m. to 15.15 p.m. Registrations, which close on March 11, should be sent to E. H. Bennett, Town and Country Planning, M. W. D.
