Safety programme
“Keeping ; Ourselves Safe,” a police and education department child safety programme, will be launched today.
The programme has been created! to fit in with the police lawrelated! education programme and the new health i syllabus in schools. It { will be launched in ! Wellington
by the Prime Minister and Minister of Educaton, Mr Lange, and the Minister of Police, Mr Tapsell. It is designed to teach primary and intermediate pupils safe practices they can ■ use when meeting other people and to encourage abused children to seek help. The programme is safety
orientated and not intended as sex education.
The concept of “Keeping Ourselves Safe” originated in 1983 and written material and videos were trialled in selected schools. I
The final modified programme is aimed to help children, their parents and teachers.
