PA Wellington Seventeen petitions, calling for withdrawal of the State Sector Bill, were presented to the House when Parliament resumed at 2 p.m. yesterday. The petitions called on the Government to withdraw the bill, negotiate with the Combined State Unions or refer the bill Ito an appropriate Royal Commission. The ■ petitions were presented by: ■ | V. Downer, Maraetai School and others; Peter Knox, Clover Park Intermediate School and others; J 3. Wiseman and others, Manurewa; Tom Main and bthers, Beachlands; and C. B. Moore and others. Drury School. ■ ' Two notices of motion were presented. Ministers answered 19 questions. The chairman of the Business Select Committee, Mr J. J.,Terris (Lab., Western Hutt) moved that the committee’s report on the guidelines for chairmen of select committees be printed and made available for public purchase. The chairman of the Planning and Development Select Committee. Mr Kenneth Shirley (Lab., Tasman), reported on the committee’s consideration of a petition calling for a review ■of increased supply charges proposed by the Eastland Energy Supply Authority, and recommended it be referred to the Government for inquiry.
The Associate Minister for State-Owned Enterprises, Mr Neilson, moved the: third reading of the State-Owned Enterprises Amendment Bill. An Opposition amendment to provide for a six-month delay was lost on a division by 35 {votes to 49. The bill passed its third reading.
The Minister of Police. Mr Tapsell, moved the third reading of the Police Complaints Authority Bill.
Debate on the : bill was interrupted when the House adjourned for dinner at 5.30 p.m. ! AT 7.30 p.m., [after the House resumed, the Minister for State-Owned Enterprises, Mr Prebble, rose to make a Ministerial statement on the sale of Petrocorp to Fletcher Challenge. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr Bolger, made a reply and debate then resumed on the Police Complaints Authority Bill. The bill was given its third reading on a 46-31 division. Mr Tapsell then moved the third reading of the Police Amendment Bill. I The bill was! parsed through, its third reading; The Associate Minister of Justice, Mr Woollaston, moved the third reading of the Protection of j Personal and Property Rights Bill, which was passed. : Parliament then , began to debate the committee stages of the Standards Bill. The bill was passed through its committal stages, and then given its third reading. The Associate Minister of Finance, Mr Neilson, moved the second reading ofj the Trustee Banks Restructuring Bill.
The debate was interrupted when Parliament j rose at 10.30 p.m.
