The day in Parliament

Four petitions were presented when Parliament resumed at 2 p.m. yesterday. The report of the Waitakere Licensing Trust was tabled. Ministers answered 22 questions. The regular Wednesday general debate followed. After the debate, the Leader of the House, Mr Hunt, moved a Government notice of motion allowing the Internal Affairs and Local Government Select Committee to hold a hearing in Auckland tomorrow on the Rating Powers Bill. The debate was interrupted when Parliament rose for dinner at 5.30 p.m.

When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m. the Government motion was carried. The Government then introduced the Ministry of Works and Development Abolition Bill.

The bill was passed through its first reading and referred to the Planning and Development Select Committee for consideration.
