Ministry will manage schemes as caretaker
PA Wellington The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries will assume operation and management responsibility of 46 Crown-owned community irrigation schemes, said the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Moyle. The schemes are now administered by the Ministry of Works and Development, with the Ministry of Agriculture giving policy advice on irrigation.
The latter Ministry would manage the schemes as a caretaker while the Government considered their future ownership and control, Mr Moyle said. Seven staff positions would be allocated to the Ministry to perform its management functions and there would be a review of the level of resources at the end of June.
